Kenya network landscape

Kenya's network is shaped by exchange, subsea connectivity and local paths.

Kenya is one of the better-connected digital markets in the region, but performance still depends on the network, routing path, infrastructure and application being measured.

Infrastructure context

Exchange points and international connectivity matter.

KIXP in Nairobi

The Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) operates in Nairobi and provides an environment for networks to exchange traffic locally through peering. Its current infrastructure includes multiple Nairobi facilities and a Mombasa location.

Submarine connectivity

Kenya's international connectivity includes submarine cable landing infrastructure at Mombasa. Communications Authority material identifies systems including EASSy, TEAMS and SEACOM as landing there, while later regulatory material continues to treat submarine cable landing as a distinct part of Kenya's international connectivity infrastructure.

What we measure

Kenya performance is a path question.

We look beyond a single server response. Depending on the audit, we examine network conditions, DNS, TCP/TLS, routing, CDN and edge behavior, infrastructure, application and API latency, databases and third-party dependencies.
